Press Release: Brian Shelden Announces Candidacy for new State Senate Seat CHI-N

My name is Brian Shelden. As someone born and raised in Vermont, I love this state. And like you, I want our state to have a thriving economy -- one that everyone can participate in and enjoy.

We need to face the real issues that hold us back from being the great state we know we can be. Vermont needs innovative, practical solutions that come from Vermonters working together. Some politicians today are too stuck in the same old tired ideas of the past -- or are too busy fighting culture wars that divide us to help us realize our full potential.

That’s why I'm running for the State Senate. As a software engineer dedicated to solving even the hardest problems, I want to get past political ideology and make it about bold, creative thinking to find the best solutions for Vermont regardless of party affiliation. Let's rise above the partisan bickering and bring everyone together in a good faith, open discussion -- like we used to -- even when we disagree, to solve problems.

I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and put my heart and soul into working with people in Milton, Fairfax, Westford and Essex to tackle the problems we face.

First, we need strong support for small businesses.

As a small business owner, I know from personal experience that to recover from COVID, our small businesses need to come back even stronger than they were before. As federal resources dry up, we need to craft smart strategies state-wide that promote economic stability and growth so our small businesses can continue to be the life-blood of our communities.

Second, we need to build more affordable housing.

Too many business owners have openings for good jobs but can’t fill them because people can’t find an affordable place to live. Our communities' children are leaving the state because they cannot afford to find reasonable rent let alone an affordable first home.

To keep our young people in state and to attract more people to Vermont requires building more affordable housing and creating sustained strategies that make living in Vermont more affordable.

Third, the people of Milton, Fairfax, Essex & Westford deserve to have their voices heard in Montpelier. The best way to do that is to have someone at the table who has the ear -- and the influence of the people in charge -- to get things done for our communities -- so we don’t get left behind.

We may not agree on everything, but you’ll always know where I stand. Through hard work and my willingness to listen, I’ll make it my job to turn vigorous action into outcomes that make a difference.

Those who know me and worked with me know that I put my heart and soul into everything I do. I’m asking you for the honor of representing you. And I thank you for considering me.
