I’m Brian Shelden, candidate for Vermont State Senate. By overturning Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court has pushed an extremist agenda that is contrary to the will of a vast majority of Americans, especially Vermonters.
Reproductive Freedom is very personal to me. I was put up for adoption when I was six days old. My birth mother made a choice because she had a choice. That choice is between a woman and her Doctor. It's her choice. Not mine. Not the government's. Not the church's.
To protect our freedom, I'm standing up and speaking out in every way I can for the rights of women, Vermonters of Color, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Because when anyone loses their rights, we all lose our rights.
In Vermont, we've known this was coming for some time. I'm proud of the foresight of the Legislature to put Reproductive Freedom on the ballot. On November 8th, please join me in voting “Yes” on Article 22, a proposed Vermont constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to personal reproductive liberty for all Vermonters.
We can't be complacent. There is more work to do. We need to make sure that Vermont health care providers are not arrested when traveling out of state. We need to make sure access to safe and life-saving healthcare continues to exist in Vermont.
And we need to vote! The message the Supreme Court sent was that State Legislatures matter. Let's vote every politician who voted against Article 22 out of the legislature. Including my opponent.
I’m going to keep showing up for marches and rallies, even when my opponent does not, because our voices need to be heard.
And I want you to know that you’re not alone. This fight has just begun and I’m right here with you. Let’s get to work. Thank you.
